Breaking News: Tears and Tributes as Late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Laid to Rest in Ibadan
The ancient city of Ibadan was steeped in solemnity on Friday as the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin, was laid to rest following a dignified church service held at the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.
Lagos Reporters gathered that the burial ceremony attracted a host of dignitaries, monarchs, government officials, and citizens who came together to pay their last respects to the revered traditional ruler.
Leading the service, Bishop Joseph Akinfenwa of the Anglican Diocese delivered a moving message, urging attendees to live meaningful lives that leave lasting legacies, just as the late Olubadan did during his time on the throne.
"Life is short, but its impact can be eternal," the bishop said. "Let us live in such a way that we are remembered for good just as Baba Olakulehin is remembered today."
Present at the funeral were the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, former Deputy Governor Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, House of Representatives member Akin Alabi, and several other top government officials and traditional rulers from across the state.
The atmosphere at the cathedral was one of deep reverence, with many recalling the monarch’s contributions to peace, culture, and development in Ibadanland.
Oba Olakulehin, who passed on recently, was known for his wisdom, humility, and leadership, traits that endeared him to his people and fellow monarchs across the Yorubaland.
Ibadan, one of Nigeria’s oldest and most culturally significant cities, now bids farewell to a king whose reign may have been brief but whose memory will remain etched in the hearts of many.
