Breaking News: EFCC Releases Former NNPCL Boss Mele Kyari After Hours of Interrogation
The former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Kyari, who had honoured an invitation to the Commission’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on Wednesday afternoon, was taken into custody and grilled over allegations of fund diversion linked to Nigeria’s refinery maintenance projects.
According to sources, the investigation centred on financial and technical transactions tied to the controversial $7.2 billion refinery turnaround maintenance programme.
His questioning came just weeks after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the freezing of four bank accounts allegedly linked to him.
A source close to the probe confirmed that Kyari was released late Wednesday night, though investigations are said to be ongoing.
