Breaking News: IGP Egbetokun Drags Five Retired Senior Police Officers to Court Over Alleged Age Falsification

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has filed criminal charges against five retired senior officers for allegedly falsifying their age records to unlawfully extend their service years.

The arraignment, slated for Thursday, September 25, 2025, before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court, covers a 14-count charge of conspiracy, forgery, and misconduct.

Those charged include retired AIG Idowu Owohunwa, CPs Benneth Igwe and Ukachi Opara, DCP Obo Ukam Obo, and ACP Simon Lough. Court papers also list “others at large” linked to the alleged offences.

The case followed a petition by civil society group Integrity Youth Alliance, accusing the officers of manipulating records. While the accused denied wrongdoing, prosecutors insist the contradictions breach public service rules.

The outcome is expected to test the police’s resolve on accountability and integrity. Lagos Reporters will continue to closely monitor developments from the court proceedings.
