Breaking News: Peter Obi Raises Alarm Over Rising Attacks on Security Operatives, Calls for Better Support for Families of Fallen Heroes

The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the increasing wave of violent attacks and killings targeting security operatives across Nigeria.

In a statement shared via his official X handle on Tuesday, Obi described the recurring assaults on soldiers, police officers, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel, and community vigilante members as both “tragic and unacceptable.”

Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, said the country has been thrown into mourning in recent weeks following several deadly attacks on security personnel, stressing that their sacrifices must not be taken for granted.

“Our men and women in uniform have paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, dedicating their lives to the safety and stability of our dear nation. These recurring killings should serve as a wake-up call to us leaders to better equip and motivate our security operatives. Security must now become the foundation of governance,” Obi stated.

He further noted that Nigeria cannot continue to bury its security personnel while leaving their families abandoned, insisting that the government must rise to the responsibility of compensating and supporting the dependents of fallen heroes.

“It is not charity, it is justice for those who laid down their lives so the rest of us can live,” he said.

Obi also prayed for the repose of the souls of all fallen heroes and comfort for their families, while urging Nigerians never to forget their sacrifice and patriotism.
