Breaking News:NAFDAC Intercepts 277 Cartons of Fake Anti-Malaria Drugs in Lagos
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted a major consignment of fake anti-malaria drugs in Lagos.
The seizure, involving 277 cartons of counterfeit pharmaceuticals, was made on August 29 inside a warehouse at Ilasa, Oshodi, after suspicions arose that the cargo contained undeclared drugs disguised as spare parts.
NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Thursday. He explained that the seized products were falsely labelled as Diclofenac Potassium Enteric-Coated Tablets 50mg but were later identified as Artemether/Lumefantrine 80/480mg tablets, a widely used anti-malaria medication.
Iluyomade described the operation as part of the agency’s intensified clampdown on counterfeit drug networks.
“This enforcement action is in line with our broader campaign to safeguard public health. It follows earlier tripartite raids in Onitsha, Aba, and Idumota markets, where large volumes of fake drugs were equally uncovered,” he said.
