Rivers Governor Fubara Meets Tinubu After Reinstatement
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, days after his reinstatement.
The governor, who arrived at the State House on Monday evening at about 6:25 p.m., was received by senior aides before proceeding to the President’s office for a closed-door meeting.
This is his first visit to the Villa since President Tinubu, in a statement on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, lifted the six-month emergency rule imposed on Rivers State.
The emergency arrangement had installed former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), as sole administrator.
President Tinubu’s directive restored democratic structures in the state, asking Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule to return to their offices from Thursday, September 18, 2025.
Upon resuming duty on Friday, September 19, Fubara addressed Rivers people in a statewide broadcast. He explained that his decision not to challenge the emergency rule was to safeguard peace and stability in the state.
The governor also pledged total loyalty to President Tinubu, promising to abide by the peace accord reached earlier in the year.
