Outrage as Former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore Uses Party Broom to Flog Supporters During Governorship Declaration
There has been widespread outrage after a video surfaced showing former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, using a broom the official symbol of the APC to flog some of his supporters during his governorship declaration event in Osun State.
In the video obtained by Lagos Reporters, Omisore was seen holding a broom and striking several of his supporters who had gathered to cheer him during his official declaration to contest the 2026 Osun State governorship election under the APC.
The bizarre incident, which has since gone viral on social media, has drawn sharp criticism from political observers and party members, many of whom described Omisore’s action as “disrespectful,” “demeaning,” and “a mockery of the APC’s symbol of unity and progress.”
Eyewitnesses at the event said the crowd initially thought the senator’s action was a joke, but were shocked as he continued using the broom on those around him, even as chants of “Omisore! Omisore!” filled the venue.
A youth leader from the party, who spoke to Lagos Reporters on condition of anonymity, said the act was “unbecoming of a leader seeking to govern a state,” adding that such conduct “shows poor judgment and lack of respect for supporters.”
“You don’t use the same broom that symbolizes our party’s unity to humiliate people who came to support you,” the youth leader said. “It sends the wrong message about the kind of leadership he intends to offer.”
As reactions continue to trail the video, some political analysts have called on the APC national leadership to caution Omisore, stressing that such behavior could damage the party’s image ahead of the Osun governorship race.
Senator Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun State, is yet to publicly respond to the viral footage or issue any statement regarding his actions at the event.
