Unity Skaters of Nigeria Honour Governor Fintiri for Promoting Youth and Sports Development
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has received the leadership of the Unity Skaters of Nigeria, led by its National Chairman, Sylvester Phadion, who visited to appreciate his contributions to infrastructure, youth empowerment, and social development.
Phadion disclosed that Adamawa is the only state in Northern Nigeria with facilities capable of hosting a national skating championship, a factor that influenced the choice of Ribadu Square, Yola, for the Fresh Air Skating Championships 2025.
The event attracted over 800 skaters from 33 states, who competed in four categories and 10 disciplines, with ₦10 million in cash prizes awarded to winners. Adamawa athletes won gold in the under-17 category and finished second in Roller Soccer. Feeding and accommodation were provided for all participants during the two-day championship.
According to the organizers, the championship was designed to curb social vices such as drug abuse, promote unity among youths, and encourage participation in positive sporting activities.
The group appealed to Governor Fintiri to domesticate skating as part of the state’s official sporting programs and to consider establishing a skating rink within the new stadium to create more opportunities for young athletes.
In recognition of his exemplary leadership and continued support for youth development, the Unity Skaters of Nigeria presented an award of excellence to Governor Fintiri on behalf of the national skating community.
Governor Fintiri, in his response, commended the group for using sports to engage young people positively and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting youth and sports development in Adamawa State.
