Breaking News: Tinubu Sends Ambassadorial Nominees to Senate for Screening
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted the names of three nominees for ambassadorial appointments to the Senate, signaling the beginning of a fresh round of diplomatic postings.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the disclosure during plenary on Wednesday, noting that the three names were forwarded for screening and confirmation. The nominees are Kayode Are (Ogun State), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa State), and Ayodele Oke.
Akpabio added that more nominations are expected, saying, “The list contains three names for now, I am sure others will follow.”
The development comes months after the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, assured Nigerians that the absence of ambassadors had not crippled diplomatic missions. He explained that chargé d’affaires, deputies, counsellors, and career officers have continued to manage embassy operations effectively, maintaining Nigeria’s international engagements and consular services.
Tuggar stressed that ambassadorial appointments remain the exclusive prerogative of the president and would be announced when necessary.
As the Senate begins the screening process, Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives including trade facilitation, investment opportunities, diaspora services and bilateral cooperation are expected to remain active. Lagos Reporters will track the confirmation process and provide further updates.
