Nigerian Government Moves Nnamdi Kanu From DSS Custody Abuja To Sokoto Prison
The Federal Government has moved Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from the Department of State Services (DSS) detention centre in Abuja to a correctional facility in Sokoto State .
The relocation occurred less than 24 hours after Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment on multiple terrorism charges.
Kanu’s former lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, announced the transfer on X, noting that the new location puts the detainee “far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones and well‑wishers”
- Ejimakor described the court’s verdict as a “travesty of justice” and said the defence team would appeal the decision .
The move follows the judge’s ruling that the DSS could relocate Kanu to any correctional centre in Nigeria . No official comment has yet been issued by the DSS or the Nigerian Correctional Service .
