Ogunwole Endorses Makinde for 2027 Presidency As PDP Heads into Crucial National Convention
House of Assembly 2027 hopeful, Hon. Leye Ogunwole, has publicly declared his backing of Seyi Makinde for the presidency, saying the Oyo State Governor possesses the leadership qualities needed to lead Nigeria when the country goes to the polls in 2027.
Ogunwole made his endorsement during an appearance on the Yoruba political programme Òsèlú Àwarawa on Dominion 106.1 FM Ibadan on Sunday, November 30, 2025. He urged PDP members and Nigerians to recognise Makinde’s record of service and capacity to unite the country.
He further asserted that the Makinde-aligned group represents the rightful leadership structure of the PDP especially ahead of the party’s national convention held in Ibadan on November 15–16, 2025. Ogunwole criticised rival factions, branding their activities “anti-party,” and expressed full confidence in the legitimacy of the Ibadan convention despite controversy over participation of the electoral body.
Ogunwole argued that while some party members raised objections notably a camp around Nyesom Wike the convention remains valid under party and legal frameworks. He insisted that the lack of presence of the electoral commission does not automatically delegitimize the party’s internal process, asserting the convention stands “officially and constitutionally.”
He urged grassroots supporters to remain steadfast, reject divisive influences from “bitter politicians,” and rally behind the renewed PDP leadership. Ogunwole described the Ibadan exercise as a turning point a rebirth of the party, built on unity, internal democracy, and readiness for the 2027 elections.
With the convention culminating in the election of a new national chairman and renewed leadership slate, Ogunwole believes the party is repositioned to reclaim national leadership. He trusts that with Makinde at the helm or as a leading candidate the PDP can deliver hope and meaningful governance for Nigerians.
