Ogunwole to Circular Road Victims: Maintain Trust in Makinde’s Compensation Promise
PDP House of Assembly hopeful for Ibadan South East Constituency II, Hon. Leye Ogunwole, has urged residents affected by the Ibadan Circular Road project to remain confident in Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to fully compensate all legitimate property owners impacted by the development.
Ogunwole made the appeal during his appearance on the Yoruba political programme Òsèlú Àwarawa on Dominion 106.1 FM Ibadan on Sunday, November 30, 2025. He encouraged the affected communities to cooperate with the state government, noting that the Circular Road remains a transformative project capable of boosting the economic and structural growth of Ibadan.
He emphasised that Governor Makinde has already demonstrated sincerity through his recent engagement with property owners along the Ologuneru axis, where the governor reaffirmed that houses within the project corridor would not be demolished without proper and adequate compensation. Ogunwole stressed that the governor’s clear stance on staying within the 150-metre setback limit in built-up areas should reassure residents who fear excessive acquisition.
The PDP House of Assembly hopeful stated that he remains committed to engaging with Governor Makinde and relevant agencies to ensure that compensation processes are transparent, fair and completed within the administration’s timeline. He maintained that the governor’s approach to dialogue and community engagement reflects an administration that prioritises people over politics.
Ogunwole, known in Ibadan for his philanthropic contributions and grassroots development efforts, also advised residents to avoid being influenced by politicians attempting to use the situation to create tension. He described such attempts as efforts to derail a project that will eventually open up communities, enhance road connectivity and raise property value across the state.
He called on the general public to focus on the long-term benefits of the Circular Road, adding that cooperation between the government and stakeholders remains the most effective way to resolve all lingering concerns.
Governor Makinde had earlier met with representatives of 38 affected communities, assuring them that all issues relating to compensation, setback limits and structural adjustments would be resolved before the end of his tenure in 2027.
