PDP Convention Shakes Up Party Leadership, Expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, Others for Anti-Party Activities
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a sweeping disciplinary action at its ongoing 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, expelling several prominent members over alleged anti-party activities.
Those affected include former Rivers State Governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike; former National Secretary and Imo governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kamaldeen Ajibade; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose; and Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, among others.
The decision, announced during the convention’s plenary session, was met with loud approval as delegates voted overwhelmingly to ratify the expulsions. Party leaders describe the move as a necessary step to “restore unity, discipline, and ideological consistency” as the PDP prepares for the 2027 general elections.
According to convention insiders, the action followed months of internal reviews, reports from disciplinary committees, and extensive consultations aimed at addressing what the party considered persistent acts capable of undermining its cohesion and electoral prospects.
A senior convention official said the PDP could no longer tolerate “behaviours and alliances that contradict the collective interests of the party,” stressing that the cleanup is part of a broader reorganization effort ahead of nationwide campaigns.
The expulsion marks one of the most consequential disciplinary actions in the PDP’s recent history and is expected to reshape internal power dynamics as the party positions itself for a major comeback.
