PDP Crisis: Oyo Chieftain, Niyi Aborisade, Calls for Peace Amid Conflicting Court Orders
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Chief (Barr.) Niyi Aborisade, has called for peace and unity within the party following conflicting court rulings over its planned national convention.
The PDP has been thrown into confusion after a Federal High Court in Abuja stopped the party from holding its convention slated for November 15 and 16, while the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan later gave approval for the event to go ahead.
Reacting to the development, Aborisade, who is also a legal practitioner, described the situation as “a serious crisis” and urged party leaders to urgently intervene.
He explained that the latest court ruling of November 11, 2025, now overrides previous conflicting orders.
“In simple terms, the most recent decision replaces the earlier ones,” Aborisade said. “Unless another court reverses it, the planned convention may not hold, or it could amount to contempt of court if it does.”
He appealed to PDP elders to step in and reconcile the warring factions, saying dialogue remains the best path to peace.
“It’s time for our leaders to call everyone to the table for peace. The elders must act fast to resolve the crisis,” he added.
Despite the tension, Aborisade expressed optimism that the party will overcome the internal storm and emerge stronger.
“I believe the PDP will survive this phase and come out more united,” he said.
