2027: Tinubu Is a Bad Market, I Can’t Support Him — Makinde Draws the Battle Line
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has firmly ruled out supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, openly distancing himself from such plans and further exposing the deepening divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Makinde made his stance known on Tuesday during a media interaction in Ibadan, where he stated clearly that while the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is free to support President Tinubu, he has no intention of aligning with that decision.
The governor emphasized that Wike lacks the authority to dictate political choices for other party members, insisting that personal conviction and party loyalty must be respected.
“Wike is entitled to support whoever he chooses, but he cannot decide for others,” Makinde said.
His remarks come against the backdrop of escalating tension within the PDP, following Wike’s open association with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration and his regular engagements with President Tinubu.
Makinde disclosed that his major fallout with the former Rivers State governor arose during discussions in which Wike allegedly insisted that he would deliver the PDP structure to Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
According to the Oyo State governor, such a posture not only erodes the credibility of the PDP as an opposition party but also weakens its prospects ahead of the next general election.
He also took a subtle jab at Wike’s political posture, cautioning that experience and political growth should not be wielded as instruments of intimidation or control within the party, but rather used to strengthen internal democracy and unity.
