Breaking News: K1 De Ultimate Withdraws Lawsuit Over Awujale Nomination Process
Fuji music legend, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, widely known as K1 De Ultimate, has withdrawn the lawsuit he instituted to challenge the Awujale of Ijebuland nomination process, effectively bringing the legal battle against the Ogun State Government and other parties to an end.
Court documents obtained on Tuesday and dated December 22, 2025, show that the celebrated musician formally discontinued the suit through a Notice of Discontinuance filed at the High Court of Ogun State, Ijebu-Ode Division.
The respondents listed in the matter included the Ogun State Government, the Executive Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Attorney-General of Ogun State, the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, and the Funsengbuwa Ruling House.
Prior to the withdrawal, K1 De Ultimate had approached the court via an ex-parte application, seeking an order to restrain the respondents from continuing with the Awujale nomination process pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. However, when the case was mentioned on Monday, the court declined the ex-parte request and instead ordered an accelerated hearing of the main suit.
Following the court’s ruling, the applicant opted to discontinue the entire action.
In the notice filed before the court, Ayinde stated that the suit was prompted by a letter from the second respondent inviting the nomination of a candidate to occupy the vacant Awujale stool. He explained that the subsequent withdrawal of the said letter informed his decision to abandon the legal action.
The notice further requested the court to take judicial notice of the discontinuance and make any consequential orders it deemed appropriate.
K1 De Ultimate, who has publicly expressed interest in ascending the vacant Awujale stool, was reportedly rejected by the Funsengbuwa Royal Family on the basis that he is not a recognised member of the ruling house. Although he holds the title of Olori Omooba of Ijebuland, the Fuji icon traces his royal claim through the Fidipote Royal Family, rather than the Funsengbuwa Ruling House.
While the withdrawal of the suit appears to remove the immediate legal obstacle to the Awujale nomination process, it remains uncertain whether the musician may refile the case should the local government issue a fresh notice calling for nominations to the revered throne.
