Aborisade Pushes for Public School Development at Oke Ibadan High School Meeting
A legal practitioner and philanthropist, Mogaji Niyi Aborisade, has called on governments at all levels to urgently rehabilitate and develop public schools across the country, describing their current state as unacceptable.
Aborisade made the call at the Annual General Meeting and swearing-in ceremony of the new National Executive Council of the Oke Ibadan High School Old Students Association, held at the school premises in Ibadan.
He lamented the poor condition of many public schools despite the nation’s abundant resources, urging government authorities to prioritise immediate rehabilitation and infrastructure renewal. He also appealed to alumni of the school to support the construction of a multi-purpose hall valued at over N250 million.
The philanthropist pledged continued moral and financial support to Oke Ibadan High School and disclosed his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, seeking the backing and support of fellow old students.
The event drew a large turnout of old students, professionals, community leaders and other dignitaries from different walks of life.
Earlier, the outgoing President of the association, High Chief Abiodun Olu Olami, commended Barrister Chief Niyi Aborisade for his consistent support to the association. He called on government to give greater attention to the needs of the school and urged the newly inaugurated executive council to build on the achievements recorded during his tenure.
Also speaking, the outgoing Public Relations Officer, Elder Olugbemiga Ugbagbo, expressed gratitude to God for a successful tenure, highlighting several accomplishments of the outgoing executives. He appealed to government to assist the school, particularly in the area of security, noting that alumni alone could not shoulder the burden.
The swearing-in ceremony featured goodwill messages from notable old students of the institution.
In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn-in President of the association, Alhaji Salaudeen Bayo, disclosed that efforts had already begun to reposition the school. He called on all alumni to support the new executive council in its drive to further develop Oke Ibadan High School.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of old students to partner with government in restoring quality education and improving infrastructure in public schools.
