Anthony Joshua Crash: Driver Faces Possible Prosecution as Boxer Suffers Leg Fracture

The driver involved in the road accident that left former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, injured may be prosecuted for reckless driving, according to sources familiar with the ongoing investigation.

Findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reportedly indicated that the vehicle was travelling at excessive speed and was involved in wrongful overtaking—offences regarded as serious violations of traffic regulations, particularly when they result in loss of life.

According to Vanguard, investigators are concluding documentation to be forwarded to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force, which is liaising with prosecutors to determine appropriate charges. Prosecution for dangerous or reckless driving causing death is said to be under consideration.

Sources further confirmed that Joshua sustained a fracture in one of his legs as a result of the crash. While authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, it has renewed public debate on road safety and accountability on major highways across the country.

The accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Two of Joshua’s close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, lost their lives in the crash.
