Breaking News: Two Feared Dead as Dangote Truck, Tricycles, Minibus Collide in Iyana Meiran
Tragedy struck the Iyana Meiran area of Lagos State on Wednesday following a fatal road accident involving a Dangote SINO truck, three tricycles and a commercial minibus, popularly known as Korope, with two persons confirmed dead.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed the incident in a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle. According to the agency, the crash occurred along Meiran Road, inward Iyana Meiran, near the Primary Health Centre (PHC).
LASTMA confirmed that two yet-to-be-identified victims lost their lives in the collision, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.
The statement read in part: “There’s a report of a fatal road crash involving a Dangote SINO truck, three tricycles and a mini bus (Korope) at Iyana Meiran inward Meiran Road by PHC. Two fatalities recorded, and casualties have been taken to the nearest hospital for medical attention.”
Officials of the traffic agency said safety cones were promptly deployed at the scene to prevent secondary accidents, while police officers were also mobilised to maintain order and manage traffic flow in the affected area.
The exact cause of the accident has not been officially determined, as investigations are currently ongoing.
Meanwhile, residents and motorists have renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, urging heavy-duty truck drivers and other road users to exercise caution to curb the recurring incidents of fatal crashes on Lagos roads.
