Ibadan Explosion: Makinde’s Spokesman Faults Fayose Over Alleged ₦50bn Tinubu Donation
The Oyo State Government has faulted claims by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu donated ₦50 billion to assist victims of the Ibadan explosion, describing the allegation as untrue and politically motivated.
Governor Seyi Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, said the former governor’s statement lacked credibility and demanded that he provide verifiable proof to support the claim.
Fayose had alleged on a national television programme that President Tinubu released the sum of ₦50 billion to Oyo State following Governor Makinde’s visit to the Presidential Villa after the tragic explosion that occurred in the Bodija area of Ibadan earlier this year.
Responding, Olarenwaju maintained that no such financial support was received from the Federal Government, noting that the state had consistently been transparent in its handling of relief and compensation for victims of the incident.
“The Oyo State Government has nothing to hide. If ₦50 billion had been received, it would have been reflected in official records and publicly acknowledged,” the spokesman said.
He added that the allegation appeared to be part of ongoing political disagreements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging party leaders to avoid spreading misinformation capable of misleading the public.
The Bodija explosion resulted in loss of lives and widespread destruction of property, with the state government pledging continued support to affected residents while investigations into the incident continue.
