Kefas Officially Joins APC, Cites Development, Unity as Reasons

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has formally registered with the All Progressives Congress (APC), completing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and marking a significant political realignment in the state.

The governor was registered at his ward and subsequently issued an APC membership card, confirming his status as a full-fledged member of the ruling party.

Explaining his decision, Governor Kefas said his move to the APC was driven by the overriding interest of Taraba State and its people, stressing the need for stronger collaboration with the federal government to fast-track development and improve governance outcomes.

According to him, aligning with the party at the centre would open up greater opportunities for infrastructure development, economic growth and enhanced security for the state, noting that politics should ultimately serve the people rather than personal ambition.

Kefas had earlier postponed a planned public ceremony to announce his defection, citing prevailing national security concerns at the time and the need to show sensitivity to affected communities.

Political observers view the governor’s defection as part of a growing wave of realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several key political figures switching allegiance in response to evolving national dynamics.

With his registration now completed, Governor Kefas is expected to participate fully in APC activities while continuing to lead Taraba State under the platform of the ruling party.
