KWAM 1 Presses On With Awujale Bid Despite Royal Family’s Denial
Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate, has intensified his bid for the Awujale of Ijebuland throne, despite a public rejection of his lineage claim by the Jadiara Royal House.
Ayinde has officially obtained and submitted the expression-of-interest form for the revered traditional stool, declaring himself a direct descendant of the Oba Jadiara lineage under the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. His application, dated December 3, 2025, reportedly outlines his ancestral connection to the ruling house through the Agunsebi-Quarters.
His declaration comes in sharp contrast to a statement issued by the Jadiara Royal House on December 7, 2025. Signed by Otunba Prince Akinola Odedina, the family categorically denied any bloodline, historical or genealogical ties between the musician and their royal lineage. The family described Ayinde’s claim as “unfounded, misleading, and historically inaccurate.”
In response to the growing controversy, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has requested that Ayinde submit a detailed Royal Lineage Data Form, tracing his ancestry several generations back for verification. The house insisted that all candidates must meet strict genealogical standards before being considered for the selection process.
Unfazed by criticism, Ayinde maintains that he is “fully entitled” to pursue the Awujale stool. He has appealed for calm, urging the public to allow the verification process to run its course while expressing confidence that his claim will be validated.
The development has sparked intense debate among stakeholders in Ijebuland and within Nigeria’s traditional circles, with many questioning the credibility and potential implications of the musician’s lineage assertion on the integrity of the Awujale succession process.
The stool became vacant following the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for more than six decades.
