Shockwave in Rivers: Governor Fubara Dumps PDP, Joins APC
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending months of speculation about his political future.
Fubara made the declaration on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, saying his decision was driven by the overriding interest of the people of Rivers State.
According to the governor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his full approval and support for his move to the ruling party—a development observers say could dramatically reshape the political landscape in the state.
The defection comes amid a wave of political realignments in Rivers, including the recent move by 17 members of the State House of Assembly who also crossed over to the APC. Governor Fubara’s frequent visits and consultations with President Tinubu in recent months had fueled expectations of an imminent switch.
