Wike-Led PDP Faction Appoints 17-Member Caretaker Committee for Oyo State

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), aligned with the faction led by Barrister Nyesom Wike, has constituted a 17-member Caretaker Committee to oversee the party’s affairs in Oyo State.

According to reports by national dailies including The Punch, Vanguard and The Nation, the appointment takes effect from December 24, 2025, and is in line with provisions of the PDP Constitution.

Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso was appointed Chairman of the committee, while Dr. Biola Olanipekun will serve as Secretary. The caretaker body is mandated to manage the party’s activities in the state for a period not exceeding 30 days, as provided under Section 21(2)(a–b) of the party’s constitution.

Other members of the committee include Hon. Ali Hammed Okesola, Hon. Kabiru Adesokan, Comrade Akinloye Oyeniyi, among others.

In a statement made available to journalists and widely reported by several newspapers, the PDP National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature, congratulated the appointees and charged them to ensure stability, unity and the smooth running of the party’s structures in Oyo State.

Political observers say the move is part of efforts by the Wike-led faction to reposition the PDP in the state ahead of future electoral contests.
