Zamfara Assembly Member Dumps APC for PDP, Cites Deepening Crisis
A member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly representing Talata Mafara North Constituency, Shamsuddeen Basko, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Talata Mafara North is the home constituency of former Governor Abdulaziz Yari, one of the key figures in Zamfara APC politics.
Basko’s defection was contained in a letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Galadima Ward in Talata Mafara Local Government Area. The letter, sighted by PUNCH Online on Thursday, formally communicated his decision to exit the party.
In the letter titled “Resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC)”, Basko attributed his departure to what he described as worsening internal crises and poor leadership at both the local government and state levels of the APC.
He wrote, “After careful reflection on activities, crises, divisions, sidelining, and the poor leadership of the party from the local government to the state levels, I have decided to step away from active participation in the party in order to pursue other commitments that align with my personal and political convictions.”
He added that the unresolved disputes within the APC had made meaningful participation impossible, prompting his decision to seek a new political direction under the PDP.
His defection is expected to further reshape the political landscape in Talata Mafara ahead of future elections.
