Olubadan, Alaafin in Awkward Moment at Ibadan Inter-Faith Gathering
An awkward moment reportedly played out at the 2026 Inter-Faith Gathering in Ibadan, Oyo State, as the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, was allegedly ignored by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abdulrashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja, during a public appearance.
According to eyewitness accounts, the Alaafin was said to have extended a handshake towards the Olubadan on arrival at the event, but the gesture was not acknowledged. Instead, the Olubadan reportedly proceeded to exchange greetings with Governor Seyi Makinde and other dignitaries present before taking his seat.
The development, which occurred in full public view, immediately drew attention from attendees and has since generated widespread reactions across Oyo State and beyond.
While some observers described the incident as embarrassing and unnecessary, others cautioned against reading too much meaning into the brief encounter, noting that protocol or personal circumstances could have played a role.
