Police Summon Ex-Rivers SSG Danagogo Over Leaked Phone Call Allegedly Plotting Wike’s Assassination
The Nigeria Police Force, through its Intelligence Response Team (IRT), has summoned a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Tammy Wenike Danagogo, for questioning over a leaked phone conversation allegedly connected to a plot against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
An invitation letter dated January 9 and issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, IRT, Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, directed Danagogo to appear in person as part of what the police described as an ongoing investigation. The letter, obtained by SaharaReporters, instructed him to report at 10am on Thursday, January 15, to the IRT facility at the Old Abattoir area near Guzape Junction, Abuja, and to meet CSP Hillary Ugwuanyi and his team on arrival.
Danagogo, a close ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former SSG during the state’s political crisis, has been mentioned in online reports in connection with the recording, which allegedly discusses plans to target Wike, his long-time political rival.
Sahara Reporters had earlier reported that a Port Harcourt-based medical doctor and pastor, Dr. Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, founder of Life Forte Chapel Church, was arrested by IRT operatives over the alleged plot. Security sources said the arrest followed the interception of a phone conversation between Gbeneol and Danagogo, in which the suspects allegedly discussed plans involving foreign nationals and potential funding.
A senior security source described the intercepted call as a serious national security concern, prompting swift action by the IRT led by Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi. Gbeneol has reportedly been in detention for about two weeks.
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that a suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue, though officials declined to disclose further details. Sources added that detectives are working to establish the full circumstances of the case and identify any additional accomplices.
