Oyo’s Golden Milestone: Accord Party Ona Ara State Constituency OYHA Aspirant, Hon. Qudus Ajibola Ibrahim Applauds Citizens, Advocates Grassroots-Focused Leadership
Hon. Qudus Ajibola Ibrahim, a member of the Accord Party and an aspirant for the Ona Ara State Constituency seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly, has congratulated residents on the state’s 50th anniversary, describing the occasion as both a celebration of heritage and a call for renewed, people-first leadership.
Oyo State, founded on February 3, 1976, following the restructuring of the former Western Region, initially comprised areas that later became Osun State in 1991.
In his golden jubilee message delivered in Ibadan, Hon. Ibrahim praised the steadfastness, unity and determination of the people, noting that their resilience has remained a driving force behind the state’s social and economic progress over the past five decades.
“This anniversary is a tribute to the everyday strength of our people — farmers, traders, artisans, professionals and young people — whose efforts continue to shape the identity and future of Oyo State,” he said. “Leadership must reflect their realities, aspirations and welfare, not just political interests.”
The Accord Party hopeful described Oyo’s reputation as a leading state in the South-West as a responsibility that demands transparency, fairness and policies that directly benefit communities at the grassroots level, particularly in constituencies such as Ona Ara.
He urged current and future leaders to draw lessons from the state’s political and developmental history, stressing that governance should be judged by visible improvements in education, healthcare, infrastructure and public safety.
Hon. Ibrahim highlighted job creation, agricultural development, youth empowerment and community-based security initiatives as critical pillars for sustainable growth and long-term stability.
“True progress is measured by how safe our streets are, how many opportunities our young people can access, and how well families can afford quality education and healthcare,” he stated.
He concluded by calling on political actors across party lines to use the jubilee as a moment of reflection and recommitment to public service, adding that Oyo’s next chapter should be shaped by accountability, inclusion and a deep connection to the needs of ordinary citizens.
“Oyo’s future must be written by leaders who listen, serve and act in the best interest of the people,” he said.
