Breaking News: Nollywood Actress Aunty Ajara Dies After Prolonged Illness
Popular Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, widely known as Aunty Ajara, has passed away after a prolonged battle with illness.
Her death was confirmed on Thursday by Nollywood director Tobi Oladele Teemony, popularly known as Tee Mony, in a statement shared on social media.
According to the statement, the actress died overnight after what was described as a long and courageous fight with her health condition.
“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness,” Teemony said.
He expressed gratitude to Nigerians and supporters across the world who stood by the actress during her illness through prayers, encouragement, and financial contributions.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported her with prayers, donations, and compassion during this difficult period,” he added.
Teemony also appealed to members of the public to stop sending donations to the account previously shared for her medical treatment, stating that financial contributions were no longer needed.
The announcement was further confirmed in a video message by the late actress’s elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, who said doctors officially declared her dead on Thursday morning.
“My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am Ajara’s brother. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.
He thanked Nigerians, colleagues in the entertainment industry, and well-wishers for their overwhelming support, while reiterating the appeal for donations to stop.
“We sincerely appreciate everyone who stood by us. Please, do not send money into the account anymore. Thank you all,” he said.
Aunty Ajara’s death comes about a week after Teemony and other Nollywood figures, including Ronke Oshodi Oke, publicly appealed for urgent financial assistance as her health condition reportedly deteriorated despite ongoing treatment.
Her passing has thrown the Nollywood industry and fans into mourning, with tributes continuing to pour in for the actress, who was known for her distinctive roles and strong screen presence.
