Ebonyi: Senator Refutes Community’s Claims Over Market Demolition

A senator representing Ebonyi State has dismissed allegations by members of a local community over the recent demolition of structures in the area, insisting that the exercise was carried out as part of a market remodeling project.

The community had earlier accused the lawmaker of ordering the demolition for reasons they described as unjust and politically motivated.

However, reacting to the claims, the senator clarified that the affected structures were removed to pave the way for the renovation and modernization of the market to improve trading conditions.

“The demolition was strictly for the purpose of remodeling and upgrading the market infrastructure. It was not targeted at any individual or group,” the senator said.

He explained that the project is aimed at enhancing sanitation, improving access roads within the market and creating a more conducive environment for traders and customers.

The lawmaker also assured that consultations were held with relevant stakeholders before the commencement of the exercise, adding that the remodeling would boost economic activities in the community.

Meanwhile, some residents have continued to express dissatisfaction, calling for transparency and adequate compensation where necessary.

As of the time of filing this report, local authorities are said to be engaging community leaders to ease tensions and ensure smooth implementation of the project.
