Kwara Massacre: “As Muslims We Believe in Destiny” — Gov Zulum Tells Victims During Condolence Visit Following Attack that Claimed 170 Lives
Vice President Kashim Shettima led a Federal Government delegation on Saturday to Kaiama Local Government Area in Kwara State following a d+adly terrorist attack on Nuku and Woro villages that killed over 170 people.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who joined the visit, comforted the victims’ families, saying, “As Muslims, we believe in destiny, but it is our sincere prayer that this kind of tragedy will not happen again.”
Shettima assured that President Bola Tinubu had ordered the deployment of a Nigerian Army battalion to restore peace. He also said the President directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief to displaced residents.
“We are here on behalf of President Tinubu to commiserate with the people of Kwara State over this tragic loss,” Shettima said. He described the victims as peaceful citizens attacked while going about their daily lives and noted the incident shocked Nigerians.
While confirming the army deployment, Shettima did not disclose details of security operations, citing the sensitivity of counterterrorism efforts, but assured that “all hands are on deck” to stabilize the area.
Zulum, chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum, extended condolences on behalf of insurgency-hit states.
