PDP Staff Rally Behind Turaki-Led NWC, Reject Ibadan Court Ruling
Staff of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat have declared support for the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), faulting the recent ruling of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, which nullified the party’s national convention held on November 15, 2025.
According to Daily Post, the workers described the judgment as misguided and insisted that the convention which produced the current NWC was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and internal guidelines.
Staff Position
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the PDP staff said the court ruling has created administrative uncertainty within the party and could disrupt daily operations at the national secretariat.
They maintained that the Turaki-led NWC remains the legitimate leadership structure, urging party members and stakeholders to continue recognising its authority pending the outcome of the ongoing appeal process.
Reaction to the Court Judgment
The Federal High Court in Ibadan had ruled that the convention was invalid and affirmed a caretaker committee led by Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the recognised leadership pending the conduct of a fresh convention.
However, the PDP staff argued that the matter is now sub judice, following the filing of an appeal by the Turaki-led faction, and should not be treated as a settled issue.
Call for Stability
The workers called on party leaders across the country to avoid actions that could deepen internal divisions, stressing the need for stability as the PDP prepares for the 2027 general elections.
“Prolonged leadership disputes will only weaken the party’s ability to serve as a strong opposition and present a united front to Nigerians,” the statement said.
Political Implications
Analysts say the open backing of the Turaki-led NWC by staff at the national secretariat could influence the balance of power within the party, as control of administrative structures often plays a key role in leadership tussles.
What Next
All eyes now turn to the Court of Appeal, which is expected to set a date to hear the challenge to the Ibadan ruling, a decision that could ultimately determine the future leadership of the PDP.
