Several Feared Dead as Lakurawa Bandits Attack Kebbi Community During Taraweeh Prayers

Several persons are feared dead following an attack by suspected Lakurawa bandits on a community in Kebbi State during Taraweeh prayers.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night when the armed men stormed the area while Muslim faithful were observing the voluntary Ramadan night prayers.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers invaded the community in large numbers, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents.

“People were in the mosque for Taraweeh when we started hearing gunshots. Everyone ran for safety,” a resident told DAILY POST.

Although the exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed, local sources said multiple bodies were recovered, while others sustained injuries.

Security operatives were said to have been deployed to the area, but the attackers had reportedly fled before their arrival.

The Kebbi State Police Command is yet to release an official statement regarding the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The Lakurawa group has been linked to a series of violent attacks in parts of the North-West, heightening security concerns in rural communities.

Residents have called on the federal and state governments to intensify security operations and protect vulnerable areas, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
