Taraba Govt Backs DSS Over Arrest of Cleric

The Taraba State Government has thrown its weight behind the Department of State Services (DSS) over the recent arrest of a cleric in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the state government said the action taken by the DSS was in line with security protocols and aimed at preserving peace and public order.

According to the government, the arrest followed intelligence reports and was not targeted at suppressing religious activities, as speculated in some quarters.

“Security agencies have a constitutional responsibility to act when credible intelligence suggests a threat to peace. The state government fully supports lawful actions taken to protect lives and property,” the statement read.

The government urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could escalate tensions.

While supporters of the cleric have reportedly raised concerns over the arrest, the Taraba government maintained that due process would be followed and that the matter should not be politicized.

The DSS is yet to release detailed information on the allegations against the cleric as of the time of filing this report.

Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that further updates will be communicated appropriately.
