EFCC Arraigns Chinese National for Alleged Cheating in Nasarawa
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a Chinese national before a Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of alleged cheating and fraud in Nasarawa State.
According to a reports, the suspect — whose name was given as Wang Wei — was brought before the court on Tuesday to face a six‑count charge bordering on alleged cheating, dishonesty and abuse of corporate trust.
The EFCC alleged that the suspect engaged in fraudulent activities involving the procurement of goods and services worth millions of naira from several businesses in Nasarawa without making the corresponding payments.
Prosecuting counsel told the court that the offences were committed between 2024 and 2025 and involved deceit and dishonest practices that left some companies in severe financial loss.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail by the presiding judge in the sum of N5 million, with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to be good, three‑tier civil servants with verifiable means of identification.
The judge ordered that the defendant’s passport be surrendered to the court registrar and directed that he must appear before the court on all adjourned dates.
The matter was adjourned to a later date for commencement of trial.
The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to prosecuting individuals — regardless of nationality — who engage in economic and financial crimes across the country.
