Midnight Inferno: Fire Guts Over 10 Shops in Plateau Market
Panic gripped traders and residents after a fire outbreak razed more than 10 shops in Plateau State, destroying goods and property worth millions of naira.
The incident, which occurred in the late hours, reportedly started from one of the shops before rapidly spreading to nearby stores, leaving traders helpless as flames consumed their businesses.
Eyewitnesses said efforts by residents and shop owners to contain the blaze were initially unsuccessful as the fire intensified, forcing many to salvage whatever goods they could from the burning structures.
Officials of the Plateau State Fire Service were later alerted and moved to the scene to battle the inferno and prevent it from spreading further to other parts of the market.
Although no casualties were immediately reported, several traders lamented heavy losses as large quantities of merchandise were destroyed in the fire.
Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the incident, but preliminary reports suggest that an electrical fault may have triggered the blaze.
Investigations are expected to continue as officials assess the extent of damage caused by the fire in the affected area of Nigeria.
