‘Nigeria Not Facing Fiscal Collapse’ – Edun
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has dismissed concerns that Nigeria is heading toward a fiscal crisis, insisting that the country’s economy remains stable.
Edun stated that Nigeria is not facing fiscal collapse despite economic pressures and ongoing reforms introduced by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking during a recent engagement with economic stakeholders, the minister explained that the government’s fiscal and monetary reforms are aimed at stabilising the economy and improving revenue generation.
According to him, the reforms—including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange adjustments—are part of broader efforts to reposition the economy for sustainable growth.
Edun acknowledged that the policies have brought short-term challenges for many Nigerians but maintained that they are necessary steps toward long-term economic stability.
He also emphasised that the government is working to boost revenue, attract foreign investment and strengthen fiscal discipline in order to improve the country’s financial outlook.
The minister further assured investors and development partners that Nigeria remains committed to prudent economic management and reforms that will place the nation on a stronger fiscal path.
