Oyo Politics: Beyond Party Lines, Hazeem Gbolarumi Remains My Political Godfather – MC Swagger Reaffirms Loyalty to APC
An Ibárápá-born (Eruwa, Oyo State) media personality, politician, and popular radio/TV broadcaster, Amb. (Dr.) Opeyemi Ayanrinde, widely known as MC Swagger HDFBML, has reiterated his political stance while acknowledging key influences in his journey.
MC Swagger, who resigned in November last year from his role as Special Assistant on Mobilization to Adebo Ogundoyin, currently serves as the Oyo State Coordinator of the Forum of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), under the Business Membership Organizations of Nigeria (BMOs).
Speaking with journalists on Sunday evening, he emphasized his unwavering loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating his readiness to contribute meaningfully to the party’s success ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I belong to APC and the AKK political structure. I am fully committed to supporting the party and delivering within my capacity come 2027,” he said.
Despite his firm political alignment, MC Swagger stressed that relationships and mentorship transcend party boundaries. He described his connection with former Deputy Governor Hazeem Gbolarumi as one rooted in guidance, trust, and fatherly support.
“Politics aside, my relationship with Alhaji Gbolarumi is deeper. He remains my political godfather. His experience, exposure, and orientation in politics are invaluable. He is a father, a mentor, and a leader par excellence,” he added.
He further explained that his entry into politics was driven by a desire for personal growth and community impact.
“I joined politics to build myself and the people around me, to create a better life and environment for my followers, and to give back to society—not to remain a benchwarmer.”
MC Swagger highlighted the importance of recognition, mentorship, and purposeful leadership in politics, noting that true growth comes from aligning with individuals who believe in and nurture one’s potential.
He also acknowledged the role of Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK) in shaping his political foundation and visibility.
“Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem laid the foundation for my political growth and recognition. I do not take that for granted—he remains my principal.”
While reaffirming his APC membership, he maintained that political affiliation should not limit meaningful relationships.
“Being in APC does not stop me from relating with like-minded individuals who believe in me. Politics should not just be about power, but about creating a better future.”
He concluded with a reflective note on political engagement:
Politics, he said, is ultimately about decision-making, leadership, and service—determining how resources are distributed and how societies are governed. For him, participation is driven by a commitment to influence positive change rather than leaving such responsibilities in the hands of others.
