A Legacy Crowned: Emmanuel Abidemi Kolade Installed as Mogaji of Korukoru Family

With immense joy and profound honour, we celebrate the installation of Emmanuel Abidemi Kolade as the Mogaji of the Korukoru Family in Ibadanland, to be performed on Monday, 27th April 2026, by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I.
This remarkable recognition is a fitting tribute to a man whose life has been marked by dedication, integrity, and service. Kolade Emmanuel Abidemi, an architect by profession, a Justice of Peace, and a proud great-great-grandson of Ojo Korukoru, hails from the Esudairo lineage. Esudairo gave birth to Akinade, who is the father of Abidemi Emmanuel.
His educational journey reflects his commitment to excellence. He studied Architecture at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and later obtained a Master of Science degree in Housing Management from the University of Ibadan. His professional career culminated in distinguished service at the Oyo State Housing Corporation, where he retired as Director of Works. He is presently the Chief Executive Officer and Principal Partner of Abikem and Sons, where he continues to demonstrate his expertise in design and construction.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Abidemi Emmanuel has been an active contributor to community development. He serves as the General Secretary of the Basorun Estate Residents Association (BERA), Akobo, and also as the Assistant General Secretary of Omoajorosun Club, Ibadan. His leadership roles and community service have made him a respected figure in both family and society.
The history of the Korukoru family is rooted in courage and honour. Ojo Korukoru, the revered ancestor of the family, originated from Amere in Iwo. He first settled at Ile Kofo in Ibadan, located in Ile Oje along Gbenla. Due to Ojo Korukoru’s extraordinary strength and influence, Kofo eventually took him to Basorun Ogunmola in Oja-ọba. Both men fought valiantly in wars and were known as formidable warriors.
During one of Ojo Korukoru’s war expeditions, his house was burnt, leading him to relocate from Oja-ọba to Yemetu, where he continued life as both a warrior and a farmer. When members of Ogunmola’s warriors began taking produce from his farm, Ojo Korukoru, out of respect for Ogunmola whom he regarded as a brother, chose peace over conflict and moved to Basorun, then later to Olorunda, before finally settling in Korukoru, where he lived until his passing.
Ojo Korukoru was widely known for his bravery, resilience, and remarkable vitality. It is also noteworthy that both Ogunmola and Ojo Korukoru bore the tribal mark known as “Gumbo Bamu,” symbolizing their resemblance and close bond.
Today, 27th April 2026, marks a historic milestone as Abidemi Emmanuel is officially recognized and affirmed as the first Mogaji of Korukoru.
This elevation is not merely a title; it is the acknowledgement of a lifetime of service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to family, community, and Ibadanland at large. Abidemi Emmanuel has contributed immensely to the progress of his family and the development of his community. His installation is a recognition not only of his person but also of his sterling character, exemplary leadership, and invaluable contributions.
As he assumes this noble responsibility, we pray that the Almighty grants him wisdom, strength, and divine guidance to lead with honour, fairness, and vision. May his tenure usher in peace, unity, and progress for the Korukoru family and beyond.
