Oyo 2027: Oseni Bows Out of Guber Race, Switches to Senate Bid After Tinubu’s Directive

A member of the House of Representatives representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, Hon. Remi Oseni, has withdrawn from the 2027 Oyo State governorship race and will now pursue a seat in the Senate.

Oseni announced the decision on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan, where he disclosed that his change of course followed a direct intervention from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Addressing party leaders and supporters, the lawmaker explained that the President had acknowledged his performance in the National Assembly before summoning him to a private meeting in Lagos.

According to Oseni, the President advised him to redirect his ambition toward the Senate in consideration of broader party interests.

“I was told to go for the Senatorial seat because of prevailing considerations,” he said, noting that the directive came after positive feedback about his legislative contributions.

Oseni admitted that stepping down from the governorship race was not an easy decision, given his prior preparations and aspirations for the state’s top job. However, he emphasized the need to respect party leadership and align with its strategic direction.

“Though it was not what we initially planned, I have chosen to abide by the directive. I am now seeking your support as I move forward with the Senatorial ambition,” he told stakeholders.

Party leaders at the meeting commended Oseni’s decision, describing it as a demonstration of discipline and loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Supporters also expressed confidence that his record in the House of Representatives positions him strongly for the Senate race.
