BREAKING: Opposition Leaders Move to Present Consensus Candidate Against Tinubu in 2027
In a major political development ahead of the 2027 general election, leaders of Nigeria’s opposition bloc have agreed in principle to rally behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The summit, themed “That We May Work Together for a United Opposition to Sustain Our Democracy,” brought together some of the country’s most prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.
Sources at the summit disclosed that after extensive deliberations, the opposition leaders agreed on the need to close ranks, put aside personal ambitions, and build a broad coalition capable of confronting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential election.
The leaders were said to have resolved that presenting a consensus candidate would strengthen the opposition’s chances and prevent a repeat of the fragmented contest that shaped the 2023 presidential race.
The gathering also featured discussions on electoral reforms, democratic stability, national unity, and the urgent need to deepen public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
