Breaking: Oyo PDP Crisis Deepens — All 51 Aspirants Set to Run on ‘Clean’ Platform, Vow to Reclaim Party as Ogunsina Blasts ‘Impostors’
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has taken a dramatic turn, with the party’s Public Relations Officer, Michael Ogunsina, revealing that all 51 aspirants under the party are prepared to contest upcoming elections on an alternative political platform.
Ogunsina said the decision was not a defection, but a strategic move to safeguard the ambitions of party members amid what he described as a prolonged internal breakdown that has made the PDP structure unstable.
According to him, the proposed platform would serve as a “clean and crisis-free vehicle” for the aspirants, who remain loyal to the ideals of the PDP but are unwilling to be hindered by ongoing leadership disputes.
He maintained that the move does not signal an abandonment of the PDP, stressing that party stakeholders are still committed to reclaiming the party’s structure through legal means.
In a strongly worded remark, Ogunsina took aim at the faction led by Professor Akinosho, describing him as “a charlatan and unintelligent individual” with no legitimate ties to the PDP.
“I have been an active stakeholder in this party for over a decade, and I have never come across him. These are not party members; they are hijackers attempting to seize control of what they did not build,” he said.
Ogunsina further disclosed that all 51 PDP candidates would proceed to contest under the new platform, with a firm resolve to return afterward and continue the fight for the soul of the PDP “to the very end.”
The development comes as the legal tussle over the party’s leadership intensifies at the Supreme Court. The apex court recently granted an accelerated hearing in an appeal brought by a faction of the party, seeking to overturn earlier rulings that halted its planned National Convention in Ibadan in November 2025.
The application, moved by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chris Uche, was granted with directives for all respondents to file their processes within five days. The court has fixed April 22 for the hearing of the substantive appeal.
At the heart of the appeal is the argument that the lower courts lacked the jurisdiction to stop the convention, a position that could significantly alter the trajectory of the party’s leadership crisis.
As both legal and political battles unfold, the PDP in Oyo State appears headed for a defining moment, with parallel strategies emerging — one in the courtroom, and the other on the ballot.
