Tinubu Heads to Jos Amid Rising Tension in Plateau

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to visit Jos, the Plateau State capital, following the recent wave of violence that has heightened tension in the region.

The visit comes in the wake of renewed unrest triggered by the relaxation of a 48-hour curfew imposed after the deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba. The situation deteriorated as mobs reportedly attacked residents and vandalised property across parts of the city.

Presidential sources say the visit is aimed at assessing the security situation firsthand, commiserating with affected communities, and engaging with state authorities and security agencies on measures to restore lasting peace.

Jos and its surrounding communities have a history of ethno-religious crises, and the latest developments have raised fresh concerns over security and stability in Plateau State.

Security has been intensified ahead of the President’s arrival, with residents hoping the visit will bring renewed attention and swift intervention to curb the violence and prevent further escalation.
