Breaking News: PDP Crisis Deepens as Two Osun Senators Resign Over Prolonged Party Disputes
Lagos Reporters can confirm that the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has worsened following the resignation of two prominent Senators from Osun State — Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) and Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East).
In separate letters addressed to their respective ward chairmen, the lawmakers cited irreconcilable differences, prolonged internal wrangling, and endless legal battles as the main reasons for dumping the opposition party.
Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, in a letter dated July 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 3, Oke Ejigbo in Ila Orangun, said his decision came after broad consultations with political allies and family members.
"I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect," he wrote. "Irreconcilable differences and irreparable division that have emerged and court cases and counter court cases in the last 3 years... have created factions in the party at the national level."
He emphasized that the prolonged infighting had weakened the party’s unity and strategic direction, making continued membership untenable.
Just hours after Fadeyi’s letter became public, another blow hit the PDP from Osun East, as two-term Senator Francis Fadahunsi also tendered his resignation. His letter, dated June 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 4, surfaced online early Saturday.
Fadahunsi similarly blamed deep-seated divisions and post-2023 election legal conflicts for his exit, saying, “This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family and friends. It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith.”
Both resignations signal increasing discontent within the PDP ranks, especially in the Southwest, as the party continues to grapple with internal disunity and leadership tussles.
