Breaking News:Lagos Doctors Threaten Indefinite Strike Over Withheld Salaries as NMA Backs Medical Guild Ultimatum

Lagos may face a major health crisis as the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos chapter, has vowed to join the Medical Guild in an indefinite strike if the state government fails to pay doctors’ withheld salaries

In a communiqué issued after an emergency meeting, the NMA declared full support for the Guild’s 21-day ultimatum demanding a refund of unauthorised deductions from July salaries and full payment of August wages.

“If by August 25, the government fails to act, the Medical Guild will commence strike action and NMA Lagos will not stand aside,” the communiqué warned, adding that it would join two weeks after the Guild begins.

The association also raised concerns over doctors’ welfare at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and demanded free call meals for those on duty.

Urging Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, to intervene swiftly, the NMA stressed that continued tampering with doctors’ earnings was “unacceptable and an affront to the medical profession.”

With the deadline fast approaching, patients and residents now fear healthcare services across the state could grind to a halt if the crisis is not resolved.
