Breaking News: Kwara Relocates NYSC Orientation Camp to Kwara Poly, Ilorin Over Insecurity Concerns
Amid rising insecurity rocking parts of Kwara State, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp has been temporarily relocated from its permanent site in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, to the Kwara State Polytechnic campus in Ilorin ahead of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation exercise.
The Kwara State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, confirmed the development during a press briefing in Ilorin on Thursday. He disclosed that the relocation was approved by the Kwara State government following growing security threats posed by what he described as “perpetrators and enemies of progress.”
Onifade assured prospective Corps Members and their parents that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee safety and smooth operations during the three-week exercise. According to him, armed soldiers and other security operatives will be deployed to safeguard participants throughout the orientation.
“We are fully prepared to host the orientation course,” Onifade said, adding that heads of various assignments have commenced arrangements to receive Corps Members, who are expected in camp from Wednesday, September 24 to Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
He further revealed that the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General OO Nafiu, has directed Mrs. Abiodun Oluwaremilekun, Director, South West Area Office I, Osun State, to inspect and evaluate the temporary venue in Ilorin.
The coordinator expressed appreciation to both the Federal and State Governments for their swift intervention and support, while reiterating the scheme’s readiness to conduct a hitch-free and successful orientation programme.
This decision comes against the backdrop of worsening insecurity in Kwara State, where bandit attacks have left several communities displaced, many residents kidnapped, and scores killed in recent months.
