Breaking News: Tinubu, Fubara Return Today as Rivers Awaits Restoration of Democratic Governance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, are both expected back in the country today (Tuesday), ahead of Thursday’s restoration of democratic governance in Rivers State.

Tinubu, who left Nigeria on September 4 for holiday in France and the UK, cut short his trip and will resume duties in Abuja immediately, according to his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga. During his stay in Paris, the President met French leader Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, where both pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Governor Fubara, suspended in March when Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, is also due back from London. His return comes just two days before his reinstatement.

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), who has served as sole administrator during the emergency period, began handover activities on Sunday with a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt. A public lecture on “Democracy and Good Governance” is also scheduled today at the Government House.

The six-month emergency rule imposed on March 18 will formally end on Thursday as Rivers prepares for a new phase under Fubara’s leadership. Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor developments and bring updates as the transition unfolds.
