Ibeju-Lekki Chairman Abdullahi Olowa Rolls Out Tough New Security Measures, Restricts Okada Hours, Bans Illegal Toll Collection
The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has announced a comprehensive set of security directives aimed at curbing criminal activities and restoring order across the LGA. The new measures take immediate effect following a strategic security briefing held with relevant agencies.
As part of the directives, commercial motorcyclists (popularly known as Okada riders) will now operate strictly between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. daily. Hon. Olowa said the restriction is crucial to enhancing safety and reducing crime linked to late-night motorcycle operations.
The council has also introduced a computerized registration system for all Okada riders, who will now be required to wear uniforms and display identification stickers to enable effective monitoring and accountability.
In a bid to eliminate criminal hideouts and unsanctioned settlements, the chairman disclosed that both the Lagos State Government and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government will proceed with the demolition of shanties and illegal structures across multiple communities.
Security agencies have further been directed to intensify their operations against cultism, while any group or community intending to host a street carnival must now obtain a police permit before doing so.
Hon. Olowa also declared the ban on illegal toll collection at Eleko Junction, warning that perpetrators will be arrested and prosecuted.
Additionally, the Ibeju-Lekki Community Corps has been instructed to resume strict enforcement against indiscriminate refuse dumping on roads and beaches. Offenders will be charged in accordance with Lagos State environmental laws.
The council chairman revealed that the enforcement of these directives will commence within 24 hours, with joint security teams already mobilized across the LGA. A coordinated task force involving multiple agencies will oversee compliance.
He urged residents, businesses, and community leaders to cooperate with the new measures and promptly report suspicious activity.
“Protecting lives and property remains our top priority,” Hon. Olowa assured, reiterating his administration’s commitment to strengthening security and safeguarding all communities in Ibeju-Lekki.
