PDP EXPULSION CRISIS: Party Acted Too Late, Now in Precarious Position - Barrister Niyi Aborisade
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and 2027 Oyo State gubernatorial Aspirant, Barrister Niyi Aborisade, has described the expulsion of Nyesom Wike, Ayodele Fayose and nine others as a delayed action that has now pushed the party into deeper uncertainty.
Aborisade said the PDP allowed the crisis to fester for too long and only moved against key figures at the most sensitive period, with elections drawing close. According to him, the party is now in a dangerously fragile position, battling internal storms that could have been avoided with earlier intervention.
He noted that unresolved court cases and leadership battles continue to weaken the party’s structure, stressing that the PDP’s fate in the next election cycle is now uncertain unless urgent reconciliation steps are taken. He also confirmed that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has exited the party a development he interpreted as evidence of the growing instability within the PDP.
Aborisade warned that several members are barely holding on as confidence in the party continues to decline. He said Governor Seyi Makinde now carries the heavy responsibility of stabilising and reuniting the party in the Southwest and nationally. He urged Makinde to move swiftly, insisting that time is running out.
He added that while the PDP is currently grappling with a major internal shake up, the APC is also approaching its own internal crisis, which he believes Governor Makinde must strategically leverage to rebuild the PDP’s strength and attract defectors.
Aborisade, an Ibadan Chief and Philantranphist, emphasised that the PDP can rise again after its current turbulence, but only if decisive and immediate action is taken to restore unity and confidence among its members.
