IYANA CELE YOUTHS STORM STREETS FOR MASSIVE CLEAN-UP, ROAD REPAIRS
Residents of Iyana Cele/Soderu in Ward 2, Unit 27 of Oluyole Local Government Area are set to witness a major environmental sanitation and minor road rehabilitation exercise as the Iyana Cele Youth Forum mobilises scores of young people for a community service scheduled for 7:00am on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
The initiative, themed “Let’s Clean Up Iyana Cele Community Together,” will focus on clearing heaps of refuse, opening up blocked drainage systems and fixing potholes within the axis, including areas around Orita Odo Ona Elewe.
Speaking ahead of the exercise, the President of the forum, Adesope Adewale Muideen, popularly known as Awalade, said the programme was conceived out of deep concern over environmental challenges and the deteriorating condition of some access roads within the community.
He explained that rather than wait endlessly for government intervention, the vibrant and ambitious youths resolved to take responsibility for the wellbeing of their immediate environment.
The Public Relations Officer of the forum, Abeeb Akorede Bolaji, disclosed that the clean-up would target strategic points in Iyana Cele and Soderu where refuse accumulation and blocked drainage have become worrisome, especially during rainfall.
In addition to environmental sanitation, Bolaji revealed that members of the forum would also fix potholes around the area using sound and durable materials to improve road accessibility.
According to him, volunteers are expected to converge early with tools such as shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, cutlasses, gravel and other necessary materials, alongside protective gear to ensure safety and efficiency.
He further stated that after the exercise, members of the forum would take group photographs to document the historic effort and celebrate their collective achievement.
Community leaders and residents have commended the youths for what they described as a bold and patriotic initiative.
Observers note that community service of this nature is critical in preventing flooding, curbing the spread of diseases such as malaria and cholera, and improving road safety.
They added that the repair of potholes would not only ease vehicular movement but also reduce wear and tear on vehicles and enhance overall mobility within the neighbourhood.
Stakeholders believe the exercise will strengthen unity among residents, instill discipline in waste disposal habits and inspire other communities within Oluyole Local Government Area to undertake similar self-help projects.
As preparations reach top gear, residents have been urged to participate actively and maintain the cleanliness of the environment even after the exercise.
For many, Saturday’s exercise represents more than just sanitation it symbolises youth-driven development and a renewed commitment to building a cleaner, safer and more organised Iyana Cele community.
